Kirk Cousins will be a free agent this spring, and even coming off a torn Achilles at age 35, JP Finlay thinks he is “right around a Top 10 quarterback in the NFL.”
He’s made almost $200 million in his career, including a couple franchise tags from the thn-Redskins, but could he make $40 million or more and/or get multiple years from someone this offseason?
“I believe he will – I am happy to like set a number and maybe even wager on it,” JP said. “To me, it’s simple supply and demand – there ain't enough of them.”
“Yeah, but I also think the Vikings had alrady started to question moving forward with him before the injury, even if he put up nuce numbers,” BMitch replied.
JP doesn’t think Cousins will end up back in DC, but could a team with a young or unsettled QB situation roll the dice on Kirk? Apparently, bookies.com has the Raiders, Falcons, and Pats as the top three odds-on favorites to be his next home, with a return to Minnesota fourth.
“I would go more Falcons than any of them, then I'll go straight to the Vikings,” BMitch said. “I think Antonio Pierce’s energy and mindset is not that of Kirk Cousins, and I understand the numbers he's put up, but in all essence, it comes to can you win me a championship? And I don’t know how many people would say yes to that right now. As good as his numbers have been, they feel he has a certain yip when it gets to the playoffs, so I understand the supply and demand, but there are some people saying they won’t pay that number on a guy that's not going to get us to the big one where we could probably get a younger dude that may have just a little bit less and get us where we want to go.”
But what if Bill Belichick ends up in Atlanta?
“Do you think Belichick and Kirk will be hand in hand? Belichick used to ride the hell out of Brady, but Brady is a different breed,” BMitch said. “Do you think Kirk wants that type of riding? If I'm Belichick, I would rather go with the guy who's gonna be a little bit more influenced than the guy that I think is the influence, because that coach is gonna wanna be able to establish the line.”
Where will Cousins end up?
