The Commanders have reworked Charles Leno Jr.’s contract, per Nicki Jhabvala, converting $7.5 million of Leno’s base salary into a bonus and adding three void years to his deal, freeing up $6 million in cap space.

“What I can tell you is the Commanders were pretty far up against the cap, with less than $1 million in space, so this gives them a little bit of breathing room,” JP Finlay said of the move.

But why?

“I think they gonna get somebody, JP,” Jeff ‘2 Funny’ Walker said. “They either gonna find another linebacker, or another lineman.”

“I think they’re trying to sign or trade for someone, and agree it’s going to be an offensive lineman,” Landphill said.

Brian Mitchell had a slightly different take: that they’re going to sign someone currently on the roster to an extension, a scenario the guys agree that would befit Kamren Curl…but did they really need to create that much space to do it?

“It will probably offer a modest amount of immediate cap relief, because the extension would start hitting next year, and his cap hit this year is $3 million,” JP replied. “Maybe this is about trying to create room to sign somebody, but who out there can help you?”

JP has seen on Twitter that the running game wasn’t great Sunday and Kareem Hunt is still out there, so maybe a reunion with Eric Bieniemy is in the cards?

Take a listen as the gang tries to figure out exactly what and who could be the reason for the Commanders reworking Leno’s deal!
