Jahan Dotson had just two catches for 21 yards against Buffalo and has 10 for 83 yards in three games – a pace that has him scheduled for 57 grabs and 470 for the season if it keeps up.
Terry McLaurin’s toe is balky, Logan Thomas is battling a concussion, and the run game is non-existent in DC, so why is the 2022 first-round pick an afterthought in the offense?
BMitch & Finlay both expected more, and JP specifically had pegged Dotson for having a big year, but despite 16 targets co-leading the team, he has been the least effective of the Top 3 wideouts in DC.
“You've got a young quarterback that's struggling getting past his first progression at times – the first read is probably to a tight end or to Terry a lot of the time – and he’s getting beat up, so he’s probably a little gun shy,” JP said. “He’s not getting a lot of time, and if you’re going to force it to anybody, you’re going to force it to 17 a lot more than you are to 1, right?”
“Against Buffalo, there were times we can see him eyeing one guy, and he threw four interceptions and was sacked nine times,” Brian replied.
“So, I don’t think it’s on Jahan; I think the way things have transpired so far, if he’s the second or third read, he ain’t gotten to me yet.”
Take a listen as BMitch & Finlay play some of Ron Rivera’s audio talking about Sam Howell’s issues with progressions and Dotson’s lack of production (and decrease in targets), and then react based on what they’ve seen!
