BMitch: Chase Young can live up to initial expectations in next chapter with Saints

Chase Young is getting positive reviews from his new coaching staff out of Saints camp, and BMitch isn’t all that surprised that the defensive end could be trending upward heading into his fifth NFL season.

“He hasn’t gotten there, but I would love to see him get there. He showed us in his first year what he was capable of,” BMitch said. “Hey, let’s be real. People get to the NFL and don’t realize that the NFL will swallow you up if you don’t have your focus right, and I don’t believe he had his focus right.”

Young, a hyped draft pick for Washington coming out of college, showed plenty of promise as a rookie, but injuries have hampered his development since. He was traded to the 49ers last season, and finished with 5.0 sacks in seven games with San Francisco. BMitch believes the former No. 2 pick had plenty to do with his own disappointment in terms of his playing career so far, but the people in place in Washington also played a part, and he doesn’t see why he still can’t turn into the player many hoped he would be when he was drafted back in 2020.

“The same stuff we thought when he came out [of college],” BMitch said of Young’s ceiling heading into his first season in New Orleans. “Yes, he’s been through injuries, but he has more experience and he knows what is expected of him…at this point, Chase should know what the NFL expects and what he can give, and how he gives it.”
