BMitch: Commanders should make Bobby Wagner priority among long list of free agents

The Commanders have a long list of free agents from last season’s group that made a surprising run to the NFC title game, meaning Adam Peters and company will have their hands full in determining how to reshape the roster for what will be a hyped 2025 campaign.

Washington clearly won’t be able to bring back all of their free agents, but who should be prioritized the most? BMitch and Tobi debated between a hand-picked trio of Bobby Wagner, Zach Ertz, and Jeremy Chinn, and both agreed that there was a clear right answer.

“I’m tyring to bring back all three,” BMitch said. “But, if I had to choose one, Bobby might be the one of those three. Having a glue guy in your room, a veteran who can still play at that level, that does more for your team than you can imagine. You heard coaches say that he would send them stuff before they even got there...this guy is always prepared.

“They have so much respect for him, and he can still play.”

Wagner certainly proved he can still play in his age-34 season, earning his 10th Pro Bowl selection after starting all 17 games while logging 75 tackles and 10 tackles for loss. Ertz had a solid season himself, as did Chinn, but Wagner not only got it done on the field, but in the locker room and with star rookie Jayden Daniels, making him the clear choice.

“Maybe he’s not the same Bobby Wagner you saw in Seattle, but he can still play,” Tobi said. “It takes on another level when it’s the dude who is a big brother to your starting quarterback who is gonna be entering his second year in the NFL.”
