BMitch goes off on critics of Commanders alternating first-team reps at quarterback
Jayden Daniels, in the Commanders’ first day of padded practice, was getting reps with the starters after Marcus Mariota got snaps with the first team.
Some fans reacted with anger over Mariota getting time with the starters over the hyped rookie Daniels, despite Washington brass vocalizing the plan to alternate Mariota and Daniels to get looks at both quarterbacks with the starting offense.
BMitch sounded off on those critics to start Monday’s show.
“Your guy was drafted second overall, the coach said he wants a level of competition,” BMitch said. “People want to complain about him not taking snaps with the first team all the time. That’s the same people that complained last year about the lack of competition. It’s the same people who were asking for Drake Maye.
“[Daniels] is going to start. Understand that. Dan Quinn has come in and is setting the mindset that ‘we’re competing for things.’ They are not concerned about the first game right now. They’re trying to compete and find out who’s the best of the three.”
Daniels has said all the right things about his role so far in training camp, and BMitch says Quinn knows what he’s doing, and fans need to take a breath and realize that there is still a ways to go until Week 1.
“For everyone to get on the radio and TV on a daily basis acting like they know more than these coaches,” BMitch said. “Take a damn chill pill and relax.”
