BMitch remembers locker cleanout day, but thinks this one will be a lot different

Instead of a celebratory facility day to gear up for Super Bowl LIX, Monday was a somber locker cleanout day for the Commanders, who are headed home for a few months after Sunday’s loss in Philly.

“It wasn’t sad; I came in and did what I need to do and got the hell out of there,” BMitch recalled of his locker cleanout days. “I was one that I always talked to the media anyway, so I didn't have a problem discussing them, but you know, it was never was like no big ordeal. You come in, make sure everybody is connected, talk about what you’re gonna do in the off-season, and get things set up for next year. Then you take a break, and when you want to get back and start working, you do. And I never left the area, so locker cleanout for me was, like, for what? I’d be back there in a month.”

JP Finlay was wondering what it might be for some veterans on one-year deals, whether they’re true mercenaries or hoping to come back, and as they took some calls on the end of the season from fans who are still stoked about what the Commanders could be, Brian and JP had to keep concluding that today is tough, but the future is ANYTHING BUT bleak.

“This makes you have hope. We have been through some lean years where there was no hope, but this season makes you think things are changing, and you have something to look forward to,” BMitch said.

“It’s totally a season where you can't wait for them to play again,” JP replied. “There’s been times where we’ve been trying to have serious conversations if Sam Howell or Taylor Heinicke was the answer, trying to talk ourselves into the path of winning without a quarterback, but things have changed. It’s drastically a new day in Ashburn; they have questions, but Adam Peters has a commitment to being locked into this team. There will be hard decisions, but there’s excitement.”
