Commanders

BMitch reminds you that it's 'lying season' in the NFL, so be skeptical of every 'expert' who hears a team's draft plans

So now some “experts” are hearing Jayden Daniels is going to be the Commanders’ choice? Cool, but as BMitch reminds, ‘it’s lying season,’ so don’t believe almost anything you hear.

“When it first started up, Drake Maye was the guy at No. 2, then Jayden Daniels moved into it, then people started saying JJ McCarthy may be all the way up there. And at the beginning, people were saying that Caleb Williams wasn’t gonna want to go to Chicago, but he has come out and said I never said that,” Brian said. “I guess it's just to prove that relatively, we all don't know, but this is a thing that they do. A lot of stuff comes out, and you have to be able to be decipher what's what and what's not – but this is entertainment for the most part, and the people that wanna come out and act as if it’s their way or nothing? Get over yourself.”

Mostly because, unless you’re inside the Commanders’ building, your surety level of their plans is less than 100 percent, and anything less than 100 percent might as well be zero.

“I don't care who the hell you are, me included, we don't know what nobody is gonna do. We might guess right, or we may guess wrong more than likely, but when you just got two people, you're 50/50 and could go out on a limb, but you don't know – and to be honest, ain’t nobody talking to you,” Brian said. “Somebody might be talking to Adam Schefter, or mentioned something to Colin Cowherd, but I guarantee it’s not the people making the decision.”

“They’re smart enough; information is golden, but it's never been more valuable and useless at the same time than our era, because of all these outlets,” was all Doc Walker could say in response.

Brian brought up an example of how Xerox became a verb until Apple and other companies came along, point being that if someone comes in to compete with you, it means you’re the best – but that also means even the best don’t always have a proprietary secret or all the assets.

“Everybody that comes out that wants to talk, they try to find some way to knock Jayden Daniels – which, in essence, tell me he's probably better than the rest after Caleb Williams,” Brian said. “So if you're trying to pick everything this man is doing, what's the problem here? They talk about the size, but remember that little skinny guy from DC that plays basketball that couldn't bench 185, and people were saying he's not gonna be able to play in the league? What year is Kevin Durant in now?”

Same goes for Drake Maye in his mind, and on down the line.

“When someone goes out their way to promote, what are you, getting paid? Why are you promoting him so hard?” Brian said. “Whoever they draft, I’m gonna support him. I'm not like Barstool Nate, where I'm gonna be out there with pompoms and stuff leading the parade, but I'm gonna support him to see what he can get, because ultimately, what I care mostly about are the people who they hired as their coaching staff. I feel more comfortable that they can develop talent than I've felt before in a long time, because I did not believe the group before them could develop a damn thing.”

“The other thing that I've learned over the years is that there are certain times that information travels a lot faster than others. You wanna get a point across, drop it the night after the national championship game has ended, the week of The Masters,” Doc replied. “There’s so many rabbit ears up right now, smart people drop information this week because everybody's paying attention to it.”

“You get these people teaching you about social media, and they say, hey, this is when you post stuff – if there’s a science about it, it means that most of the stuff being presented is not true,” Brian shot back. “You know what the truth does, but I can guarantee you 80 percent of the people in this business don't do that, they’re trying to get you just to click.”
