Brian Robinson to Junkies: Winning close games shows Commanders are 'team full of fighters' heading into playoffs

"We're in a good spot," running back Brian Robinson Jr. said – stating a bit of the obvious about the Washington Commanders as they head into the Wild Card round of the playoffs after a 12-5 season – in his weekly appearance Tuesday with 106.7 The Fan's The Sports Junkies, which is presented exclusively by our partners at MainStreet Bank — Cheer Local. For Robinson, this will be his first trip to the playoffs as Washington last made it to the postseason the year before he was drafted, and they're doing so in a good bit of form – at least, the results have been good – five straight wins after a tough three-game losing streak.

Of course, for four of those wins things have gotten a little hairy at the end as the Commanders have only secured victory on either the final play of the game or in the closing minute.

"Man, it's been crazy," Robinson told The Junkies. "Its been exciting, but it just showed us multiple ways to win games and clutch and winning time moments in the game. And it just showed us what type of team we have and [we can] overcome any type of adversity that we up against the whole game.

"Like we can play bad the whole game but we know exactly what time it is to win and we do all the things necessary to put ourselves in the position to just go and win in those clutch moments.

"And it just goes to show what type of team we have. We have a team full of fighters that never give up and fight 'til the end and I just feel like that's the perfect thing to see out of our team going into the playoffs."

Robinson said guys are "pumped up and exicited" around the building in Ashburn for the chance to shine in the playoffs and make a deep run. The job now is to "keep each other motivated and know what's at stake and attack it."

It has been tough sledding for the third-year back in recent weeks as after he ran for 103 yards on 16 carries in a win over Tennessee, Robinson has just 159 yards on 49 carries (3.24 per attempt) in the season's final four games.

"We just gotta find a way to continue to stick with it and make it grow especially at this time," he said about the team's run game in general. "And speaking to me personally, I can play better, no doubt. I'm definitely gonna play better and get more involved."

In looking at the tape, the RB said there are times when he has played "too fast and a little out of control" and that has led him to "get out of place" on blocking and with a run scheme missing on his execution, which has him looking to be more patient and hopefully gash the Buccaneers defense on Sunday night in Tampa.

Robinson finished with 799 rushing yards on 187 attempts (4.3 yards, a career-high) in 14 games (57.1 yards per game) with eight touchdowns (also a career-high).
