Brian Robinson talks big day in win over Titans, Commanders bye with the Junkies

Brian Robinson's ankle was feeling "pretty bad" early last week, but the Commanders' running back was able to play on Sunday and he ran all over the Tennessee Titans for 103 yards on 16 carries (6.4 yards per attempt) and a touchdown in Washington's 42-19 win.

As a team, the Commanders rushed for 267 yards on 45 attmpets with three scroes, in a big bounce-back game for the offensive line

"Oh yeah, they did an awesome job," Robinson said about the big holes the O-line provided for him to run through during his weekly appearance Tuesday with 106.7 The Fan's The Sports Junkies, which is presented exclusively by our partners at MainStreet Bank — Cheer Local. "Probably one of their best games this whole seaon from start to finish," he told the Junkies. "Moving the line of scrimmage, some key palyers upfront they got the guys moving, and really held them under control the whole day.

"...That's probably their best output and I'm excited to see how they grow from that."

That was the case on the Commanders' third play from scrimmage, which was their first rushing attempt of the game, Robinson got the ball off the right tackle and went 40 yards untouched into the end zone thanks to an especially massive hole.

"There's a lot that goes into it, making a hole like that," Robinson said, explaining that cohesiveness from the offense has to be just right to get the timing down so the scheme works. "Have the proper patience of getting to the hole before you can just hit it. All those small details go into to make that play happen."

Chris Rodriguez Jr., getting a chance with Austin Ekeler on IR with a second concussion, ran for 94 yards on 13 rushes and a score, something Robinson was glad to see.

"I told Chris was too happy for him," Robinson told the Junks. "It's been a process for him, he's handled it extremely professionally just all his ups and downs. Just never taking anything for granted, keep working hard, take every rep serious, scout team rep, always take 'em serious, treat them like game reps and compete. Always compete with everything that we do.

"And it's no shocker that when his number's called he's ready for it. That's just who he is. That's our running back room, we stay ready so we don't have to get ready. And to me, as a leader in the room, I wanna make sure, even the third or fourth guys are on the same page with the starter."

Ahead of Washington's first cold-weather game (temperatures dipped into the low 40s), the running back said he was happy to see everybody on the team not let the crisper weather impact them and everyone keep their focus on the task at hand.

Now, heading into the bye week at 8-5 and ensconced in the playoff picture, Robinson said guys handled having a late season bye "very well" and this is a "perfect time for guys to rest their mind, body, and soul" and handling business on Sunday sets them up for a restful week away from football to prepare for the season's final four games.
