Charles Mann is one of the most legendary Washington football players ever, with three rings, four Pro Bowls, and a spot in the Ring of Fame (and on the 80 Greatest Redskins list) – so he knows talent when he sees it.
When it comes to our current franchise quarterback, though, it goes beyond talent…as Mann compared him to maybe one of the best ever in ANY sport.
“Jayden Daniels is superhuman – we may be watching the next Michael Jordan or LeBron James or Tiger Woods or Serena Williams,” Mann told Grant & Danny Thursday. “As a rookie, he’s just cool, calm, and collected…it’s kike he doesn’t have a pulse. I know he’s alive, but he is just a freak of nature – and it’s fantastic to watch!”
Grant told Mann how many people have said something similar about Daniels’ poise, but, you know, the numbers are pretty good, too.
“Of all the quarterbacks left this weekend, he’s the best left and has the best stats – how do you throw 525 passes and only have nine interceptions?” Mann marveled. “
And he’s led the team to an unprecedented turnaround, one that could find itself going from No. 2 pick to the Super Bowl in one season if they can win a game, against a team, in a locale, they’ve already conquered in the last month.
“This is just wildness. I have been super negative over the years – I’ve been in the community since I retired in 1995, and it hasn't been good,” Mann said. “I didn’t think much to start this year, and when I went to the Dallas game, there were some bright signs – but what’s happened in the last five or six weeks is remarkable. It’s baffling, but I’m loving it. Dan Quinn has got these guys believing in each other, and believing they can do anything!”
Take a listen to Mann’s entire visit above, as he reminisces about the last time the Commanders were in the NFC Title Game, gives some thoughts on the overall direction of the organization, and more!
