The Washington Commanders are parting ways with offensive coordinator Scott Turner after three seasons, sources tell 106.7 The Fan's JP Finlay.
Commanders head coach Ron Rivera issued the following statement on Turner's dismissal:
"I met with Coach Turner today and informed him that we will be moving in another direction going forward with the offensive coordinator position," he said. "Unfortunately, we did not live up to the expectations and standard that I expected to see from our offensive unit. I felt it was best for a fresh start at the coordinator position heading into next year. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Scott and thanked him for his three years of service to our organization. I wish Scott and his family all the best in the future."
Rivera spoke of the job Turner was doing earlier Tuesday during his season-ending press conference. The words he offered weren't exactly a ringing endorsement of his offensive coordinator.
"I think Scott did his job, did the things that he tried to do," Rivera told reporters. "We're gonna self-evaluate and go through that process."
The Commanders ranked 22nd in passing offense, 12th in rushing and 24th in scoring in 2022. Washington's offense also ranked in the bottom third of the league in yards per play and scoring offense in each of Turner's three seasons as coordinator.
Turner followed Rivera over to Washington from Carolina, where he had previously served as the Panthers' quarterbacks coach in 2018 and 2019.
No other coaching changes have been made on the Commanders staff.
