The Commanders have reached the NFC title game for the first time since Darrell Green roamed the Washington secondary over three decades ago, winning a Super Bowl in 1991.
On Wednesday afternoon, BMitch and Finlay spoke with the Commanders legend about the unprecedented turnaround of the franchise, which has brought the organization on the cusp of heights not seen since Green was in his prime.
“I almost feel like we’re dreaming, and I don’t want to wake up,” Green said. “But I don’t think it is a dream. I think it’s been very well, thoughtfully, executed. They picked right…the moves were very serious, focused, and true.
“They made decisions like ‘we’re trying to do this.’ It’s not a dream…we’re trying to win.”
New ownership came in and brought in Adam Peters, who brought in Dan Quinn, and the group took one season to rebuild the team and look to improve several aspects of the organization, and endured one bad season to draft Jayden Daniels second overall. The rookie now looks like the best quarterback in the playoffs so far, and all that is standing in their way of a Super Bowl berth is the rival Eagles, who Washington beat in a thriller just weeks ago.
Green will be pulling for the Commanders, who he says have completely changed their image and how they operate in just a year, and what a difference it has made.
“They’re not trying to be cute or appease anybody,” Green said. “They are trying to win. Man, it is exciting.
“I’m just happy for all of us…DMV fans. We’re human and always loved this city and this team.”
