The Commanders are reportedly releasing their Pro Bowl defensive tackle.
Washington has informed Jonathan Allen of his release, which will allow him to enter the open market, where he will likely get a nice payday.
The Commanders tried to find a trade partner for Allen, but instead, they will cut the former first-round pick to save just over $16 million in cap space.
Allen was with the Commanders for his entire eight-year NFL career, logging 42 sacks in 108 starts. His season was shortened last year due to a torn pectoral muscle, but he was able to return after initial fears that his injury was season ending.
A Pro Bowler in 2021 and 2022, Allen’s career sack total is good for 10th all time in franchise history.
