It’s unfortunately official: Commanders right guard Sam Cosmi suffered a torn right ACL in Saturday night’s win in Detroit, and will miss the remainder of Washington’s playoff run.
Head coach Dan Quinn spoke to the media via Zoom on Sunday afternoon and confirmed the news that Cosmi is done for the year.
“He’s been a significant part of what we’re doing, especially interior, so it’s a big deal for the ballplayer and the man,” Quinn said.
Cosmi was injured on Brian Robinson’s touchdown run in the second quarter, when he was rolled from behind by Za’Darius Smith, who was trying to tackle Robinson but instead hit Cosmi in the knees as he was engaged in a block.
Trent Scott, nominally the fourth tackle, filled in the remainder of the game at right guard, but Quinn was non-committal on who would take Cosmi’s place in next week’s NFC Championship Game in either Philly or Los Angeles.
“As we get into this week, we’ll see all the matchups and see how we want to do things,” Quinn said, “but we thought Trent did a great job.”
