The Commanders have a new kicker – and they're making history in signing him.

Per NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, the Commanders are signing veteran kicker Matt Gay to a one-year deal worth over $4.25 million fully guaranteed, which is the most fully guaranteed money for a kicker on a one-year deal in NFL history.

Gay can earn up to $5M with reachable incentives, according to the report.

The signing once again stabilizes what was a bit of a revolving door for the Commanders, who initially signed Brandon McManus last offseason but, after releasing him due to off-field troubles, had multiple kickers in camp and used four different players at the position during the season.

Gay, 31, was recently released by the Colts after two seasons there. He was 31-of-37 on field goals last year, with all six misses from 50 yards or further, and made all 33 PATs, and for his career, Gay has an 85.5 field goal percentage and 96.3 PAT percentage in the regular season.

The Commanders opened a roster spot for gay by releasing Zane Gonzalez, who kicked in six regular-season games and all three playoff games for Washington, converting 12 of 15 total FG attempts and all 27 PAT attempts.
