Commanders sign nine players to reserve/futures contracts

With their season now over, the Commanders have taken a move to retain nine of the players on their practice squad over the offseason by signing them to Reserve/Futures deals.

Those players are: RB/WR Kaz Allen; DT Viliami Fehoko Jr.; OG Julian Good-Jones; QB Sam Hartman; TE Tyree Jackson; DE Andre Jones Jr.; WR Chris Moore; S Ben Nikkel; and TE Cole Turner.

Allan had been on injured reserve but the other eight were on the practice squad. Hartman spent time on the active roster in September while Marcus Mariota was on injured reserve, and Jones Jr. was the only one of those players to earn elevation this year, appearing in two games.

He and Turner were former Commanders draft picks during the Ron Rivera era, and have appeared in 16 and 22 career games, respectively, in burgundy and gold, while Good-Jones also appeared in one game in 2023.

The reserve/futures deals give the Commanders their rights to be part of the 90-man offseason and camp rosters, but they cannot be activated during the team's playoff run.

Washington had previously signed TE Lawrence Cager, OT Anim Dankwah, and RB Demetric Felton to Reserve/Future deals earlier this month, as they were either not on a roster or on a non-playoff team's practice squad, and also added CB Allan George and WR Michael Strachan on Jan. 17.
