Commanders sign TE Tyree Jackson to practice squad
The Commanders have reportedly added some reinforcements to a banged-up position: per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the team has signed TE Tyree Jackson to the practice squad.
To open a spot on the practice squad, the team placed RB/WR Kaz Allen, who was injured last week in practice, on IR.
Jackson, 27, was a quarterback in college at Buffalo and went undrafted in 2019, playing for the DC Defenders in the shortened 2020 XFL season before signing with Philly as a tight end.
He spent 2021-22 in Philly and then last year with the Giants – where he played under current Commanders offensive line coach Bobby Johnson – but has been out of the league this season after being waived with an injury settlement by Big Blue at the end of training camp.
Now healthy again, Jackson, who has three catches for 22 yards in 16 career games, joins Cole Turner on the practice squad giving the Commanders another option for their depleted tight end room; Zach Ertz left Sunday’s win in New Orleans with a concussion and is in protocol, leaving blocker John Bates and rookie Ben Sinnott – who have 12 catches for 98 yards combined this season – as the only healthy TEs.
Another rookie, Colson Yankoff, is on IR after being active for six games earlier this year.
