Dan Quinn’s biggest topics when he joined The Junkies Tuesday were the evolution of Jayden Daniels into the QB1 role and what’s going on with the kicking game – but that doesn’t mean he didn’t also touch on a few other hot topics around camp.
If you missed Quinn’s interview, you can listen above, and take a look at this quotebook on a few other notable comments from his visit with the Junks!
Quinn on the WR2 battle: “I think there's a really good group of players into that spot, so don't necessarily call them into twos and threes, kind of like in fantasy, it’s how do you feature the guys and the things that they can really do well. I do like the group, and we’ve got a very competitive group down the line. All of them kind of bring some cool different stuff to the team, and that's our job as coaches to make sure that we're putting the guys of the things that they're really good at, that we can put them in that space to go do it. If you want to take the top off the defense, you gotta put somebody in that can fly. If you want to put somebody that's down in the slot, you gotta be able to be strong enough to break off of leverage off of somebody. It just kind of depends how you're gonna feature the guys. Terry is our X, he's usually to the weak side of the formation so there's a lot of singles hat can be to his side, but past that, we’re just trying to find the things that the guys do best and then feature them into that way, much like we do in a lot of spots.”
On Jamin Davis as a pass rusher: “Sometimes you even had a vision for him coming out of Kentucky with that speed – I can remember being with the staff down there and talking through him and some of his teammates during that year's draft class. So going through it, I thought there's the speed, there's the quickness as a pass rusher; you have to be able to beat him to the punch and get off quickly, and he always had that trait. So, to get excellent at it, we would knew it would take all the way through training camp to get in the extra work for him to become where he's at a comfortable level doing it. Now, you have the ability to be behind the ball on the end of the line, but you had to go put that work in. I’ve been so impressed by the way he's just absolutely gone for it; he spent a lot of time with Ryan Kerrigan, who knows a thing or two about pass rush, and so finding those small margins and things that you can do better, Jamin has certainly done that.”
Quinn on how many hours he puts in a week: “A lot. I get home late and get up early – it’s not a good model for anybody, so I’m not even going to share it with you!”
Quinn on who may or may not play this weekend: “I’m not gonna hit on some of the guys this week. For two days, all I want the guys thinking on is just competing against one another; we’re going to do the last two installs today and tomorrow, and then we're gonna kind of dig into Friday when we’ll begin the New England prep. We kinda want to get a chance to go through the roster; we actually have a personnel meeting today, so as we dig into Friday, we'll kind of have some more info about who would play and how much and that kind of stuff. We’re gonna get through a couple days and then see what we need, and if we think certain people need certain ones, that's how we'll do it.”
