David Aldridge wants RFK 2.0, but understands there are questions about the project as is

Basketball is David Aldridge’s most notable sports coverage area, but as a DC guy through and through, he also knows what Joe Theismann means when he calls RFK Stadium ‘hallowed ground.’

And as a product of the District, yes, indeed, Aldridge is thrilled the Commanders are coming back – but he also thinks it’s unfair to criticize those, especially the DC Council members, who question some of the current scope of the project.

Even BMitch and JP acknowledge that over the last 30 years, the demographics of the neighborhood around RFK have changed, so neighborhood opposition is understandable – but what about the fact that the Senate literally voted 100-0 to approve giving DC the land back for this very purpose?

“I agree in a sense – there’s no way that you’d get Republican Congressmen to sign off on something to empower the district government because they can't stand the district government, if there wasn't some hoped-upon quid pro quo in place, right?” Aldridge said. “What that is, we don’t know, but whatever reasoning Congress had to give the land back to DC, it doesn’t really matter to me, because now the land is in DC's hands and they can do what they want to do with it. And, they still have to answer to issues that people are bringing up, whether it's the amount of money that DC is putting into it, or the services, or the things like that. It's not hating to say, wait a minute, you got to hold these people accountable for the promises they're making.”
