Doc & Scott are in for BMitch & Finlay the rest of the week, the latter pair getting in some final vacation before the NFL season gets underway with training camps later this month.
We’re just over two weeks away from the Commanders reporting, and so Doc & Scott took a look at Pro Football Focus ranking all 32 NFL rosters…and putting the Commanders 17th, well below the top half of their division.
“The disappointing thing about this list is that the Commanders are not undersold, but the problem is the Eagles are No. 1 and the Cowboys are sixth, so that’s four games there,” Scott said. “But, they said that the Commanders’ biggest strength is coverage.”
“That’s the highest we’ve been ranked in anything publicly,” Doc said. “When they say coverage, and that’s sticking Forbes in as a starter…it all depends on if they’re healthy and what they can do, but when was the last time the secondary led any topic when you start thinking about success?”
The Giants are ranked 22nd, so the Commanders aren’t the lowest team in the NFC East, although Scott & Doc don’t think that seems to matter.
Nor, do they seem to be worried about a “small thing” that is PFF’s listed weakness for the Commanders: quarterback play.
And yes, that was facetious, but Doc & Scott get it…and Doc is glad that was the choice and not another position group.
“That’s fair, and how else would you say it?” Doc asked. “But that’s the part I’m least concerned about. Had you said offensive line, maybe; where I’m reluctant to talk trash is up front, because I haven’t seen them in armor. I don’t judge offensive linemen in shorts; they have a lot of good looking bodies, but I have to see them fully-functional with pads on. But QB? Go ahead and bet against Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett, I’ll see you at the finish line.”
