Doc and Lynnell filled in for BMitch and Finlay on Friday, and raised some skepticism on what the 2024 QB draft class will turn out to be in the NFL.
The answer to that question is a vital one for the Commanders, who will almost certainly be taking a quarterback with the second overall pick later this month. Whether it’s Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, or J.J. McCarthy, could this group go by the way of the disappointing 2021 draft class, or the much more fruitful class of the year before with the likes of Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, and Justin Herbert?
“It almost feels like every week we get closer to the draft, there’s a new name that gets rumored with that No. 2 overall pick,” Doc said. “First it was J.J. McCarthy, then it was Drake Maye, and this week every mock draft you look up, it’s Jayden Daniels.
“The only thing that gives me skepticism about whoever they take is the recent history of first-round picks at the quarterback position…2021, the draft class that had Trevor Lawrence as the consensus No. 1…he looked the part, but mixed bag results…It is no sure thing that any of these guys drafted in the first round are gonna pan out.”
