Finlay gives instant reaction to Commanders landing Marshon Lattimore

The Commanders have reportedly swung a huge trade for Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore, bolstering the team’s biggest area of need as they make a push to be one of the top teams in the NFC.

JP Finlay says, if there was any doubt about how all in the Commanders would be after a 7-2 start, there shouldn’t be any now.

“If anyone wants to know if they’re in a competitive place, they just told you,” Finlay said.

“This is a true CB1…in a lot of ways, Adam Peters just turned Jahan Dotson into Marshon Lattimore.”

With Lattimore in the fold, at least once he returns from a hamstring injury, the Commanders now have the luxury of bumping their existing corners down in the depth chart, which Finlay says could result in a former hyped draft pick losing his playing time.

“If you’re Emmanuel Forbes, I think you have to worry about your roster spot,” Finlay said.

Regardless of the roster implications, Finlay says the trade was a necessary one, and a clear sign that Peters and company are out to give themselves the best chance to beat other top teams in the NFC to reach a Super Bowl.

“At some point, you have to look at the NFC and look at your competition, especially within the division,” Finlay said. “What do the Eagles have? Big, stud receivers…at some point, you have to look around and see what you got, what they got, and how to beat them.”
