Fred Smoot likes what he’s seen out of the Commanders’ offseason so far, even the latest move of signing Josh Johnson to be the third-string quarterback – something he thinks just further proves that the Commanders are doing all they can to keep things consistent if something goes awry.
“The one thing I do is ‘In Peters I Trust’ – I think this fan base has been scarred so much that when we do get somebody in that knows how to do their job, we kind of second guess them and wonder what's going on. Well, I'm not doing it; once you’ve got a braintrust in there, once you got some guys in there that know what they're doing, I'm going to trust what they're doing and, and, and Pierce has earned my trust,” Smoot said. "
It’s also great they got a weapon in Deebo Samuel who fits that offense and a left tackle in Laremy Tunsil to anchor the line – but as he talked about Tunsil, Smoot reminded that if people question these moves, or even some of what happens in the Draft, they should remember that Adam Peters has a plan.
