Aaron Rodgers is NOT returning this season, announcing on the Pat McAfee Show Tuesday that he’s ‘not 100 percent,’ so he will not be returning on Christmas Eve against the Commanders (or in any of the final two games, either).
Well, if Ron Rivera’s hallmark is inconsistency and apathy, A-Rod’s is certainly spotlight-hogging.
“Where was all that when everyone was talking about him possibly playing Christmas Eve for the last six weeks?” Grant asked sarcastically.
“Well that wouldn’t have gotten him the attention he’s after,” Danny, self-admitted attention hog himself, replied. “He wanted attention, and the swirling, ‘He might? He could? BUT HOW?’ he soaked it up. Just having a great old time soaking up th adulation and attention.”
Grant admits that Rodgers’ recovery timeline is ‘amazing,’ even as one fantasy football expert doctor estimates he’s only at about 60 percent, unheard of three months in, so things are advanced here.
“But, this idea of playing on Christmas Eve was not being pushed by the team, it was being pushed by him or his agent,” Grant said. “Now, I never thought they’d be in the mix, so I ruled it out to begin with, but it’s almost like science and what we know about injury matters a little bit – but a lot of people were fooled into believing he would be able to play.”
Danny, however, had an interesting take via a Jets fan friend.
“I don’t agree with this, but he thought maybe someone from the team was okay with it being out there – almost like a carrot to the squad, like, ‘if you guys do enough, and we’re the seven seed, who would want to see us with Aaron Rodgers coming back?’”
“I don’t think teams care in general, unless it’s destructive, if someone thinks something – they’re not interested in fact-checking the public,” Grant replied. “There’s no reason to correct it, but it just wasn’t ever a thing, and he made it clear today.”
