KILT Houston's Seth Payne gives G&D the mixed review of Laremy Tunsil trade

It seems like just about everyone who has come on the air on 106.7 The Fan or The Team 980 to talk about Laremy Tunsil since the Commanders agreed to trade for him has had a similar opinion: he’s really good, for sure in pass protection, and it’s a good trade for Washington, but there are some issues.

Seth Payne, who co-hosts the morning show on our sibling station KILT 610 AM in Houston, seems to fit that bill also, as he gave Grant Paulsen and Tobi Altizer this scouting report on Wednesday:

“It’s not that Laremy Tunsil is not a really good football player; he is. But, I think he's a really good pass protector, but the run game is not something that he's ever really shown much attention to or seemed to care about much at all. He’s capable of doing it, but he’s a haphazard run blocker, so he's been frustrating for me to watch because I feel he genuinely could be an All-Pro caliber player.”

But, that run blocking…

“So yeah, it’s not that it was a bad trade for Washington; it’s a really good trade for Washington, and I think that protecting Jayden Daniels is fundamentally a thing that they should care about,” Payne said, “but the run blocking, the attention to detail and screens and some of the other stuff that fans in the advanced stats and the PFF grades don't really show, he lacks when it comes to comparing him to a Penei Sewell or a Trent Williams or somebody like that.”
