Grant and Danny all in on Commanders trade for Marshon Lattimore: 'They got a whole lot better'

The Commanders have made the trade for Marshon Lattimore official, acquiring the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback to bolster the team’s biggest area of need.

Lattimore is recovering from a hamstring injury, but once he is ready, he will immediately become the team’s top corner, and Grant and Danny overwhelmingly approve of the move.

“They have gotten a whole lot better,” Grant said, noting that the rest of the cornerback room will benefit from Lattimore’s arrival.

“Everybody else down the depth chart. That means Mikey Sainristil can play nickel, which is what you drafted him to do. That means Noah Igbinoghene...he is an extra piece that can be flexed and used inside and outside. When you add a No. 1 at a position, you move everyone down one spot, and that’s exactly what they did with this Marshon Lattimore trade.”

Danny is in full agreement, and says Washington now has a legit CB1 that will help the Commanders defense, and put even more pressure on opposing defenses to slow down Jayden Daniels and the electric Washington offense, as teams may have more trouble competing in shootouts with the Commanders now that Lattimore is in the fold.

“When that dude is on the football field, he can play,” Danny said. “He is a really good football player...that’s the best cornerback in your room now.”

The move also continues a remarkable turnaround for the Commanders, who were sellers a year ago before running out to a 7-2 start this season and are going all in on a push for a Super Bowl run. It is another refreshing reminder that the franchise is in much better hands with the new regime.

“I just love the grown-up operation and common sense with which they operate,” Grant said. “Sometimes, when we all see something on the outside, they see it too. It used to be, for three days, we talked about how they really needed a cornerback, and they would do a 4:00 press conference where we’d be told why we were wrong about cornerback, and they were right.”
