Grant & Danny: Is Kliff Kingsbury poised for successful first season with Jayden Daniels?

Kliff Kingsbury is getting set to begin his first season as Commanders offensive coordinator, a critical season for Washington and young quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Plenty of eyes will be on the Daniels/Kingsbury pairing in year one, and Grant and Danny gauged each other’s confidence levels in how the duo will fare in 2024.

“Some jury is still out,” Danny said. “He has been around some really intriguing, fascinating, awesome quarterback prospects…there’s a sweet spot where if he is great and this offense is awesome…he’s probably out of here. He’s probably getting a head coaching job. If it’s pretty good, you have a chance at some sustainability over the next couple of years.

“I feel okay with Kingsbury…given this structure right now, I feel about as well as you possibly could.”

Kingsbury is no stranger to dealing with hyped quarterback prospects, from Kyler Murray in Arizona to Caleb Williams at USC, so taking on the task of developing this year’s No. 2 overall pick is something that Grant believes will be a success. The only concern is if it winds up being too much of a success.

“I would have gone the way of Klint Kubiak…but I’m a Shanahan guy. No problem with the Kingsbury hire,” Grant said. “I think his situation in Arizona and their limitations had more to do with Murray than him. But we’re gonna find that out once and for all here.

“I expect him to have a lot of success with Jayden Daniels. I think it is a good marriage...but I am a little bit nervous that it goes so well that he leaves. It going terribly is the worst-case scenario, but the second-worst case is that it goes so well that he leaves. Then what?”
