Travis Kelce was on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take podcast with our buddy PFT Commenter this week, and this is what he had to say about his now-former offensive coordinator in KC, Eric Bieniemy:
“Oh yeah, you guys are getting a dawwwwg,” Kelce said. “He’s gonna fire up that team, man. He’s awesome for that core group of guys, and I think what he does better than a lot of coaches is he’s very organized. He’ll make sure guys know what they’re doing – you’d be surprised how many guys are just out there running around, but EB is all about making sure we know what we’re doing and how we’re going to do it.”
And Grant & Danny LOVE that.
“The en vogue thing to do now is call people a ‘dawg,’ and that’s just parlance to me, but a decade-long NFL player is comparing EB to other coaches, and says he excels at preparation,” Grant said. “His point was that a lot of guys just go out there and freestyle within the confines of the offense, but Bieniemy gets everyone on the same page as best he can before the headsets go off in the earpieces.”
“That’s very exciting to me, because one of the things I’ve always felt about a lot of coaches here was that it was a little too casual,” Danny said. “As much as Jay Gruden was a smart offensive mind, I think there was a little more ‘just go get open’ than you’d like. I want that raised expectation, the idea it’s not okay to just be okay; the whole point is to try to be great, and detail-oriented is a great place to start. If you’re not as talented as other teams, can you out-work and out-think people? I want that.”
