Grant & Danny are ready to party on July 20 if Commanders sale is ratified

A WaPo report Friday revealed that the NFL has given the owners the date of July 20 for a special meeting, likely to vote on ratifying the sale of the Commanders to Josh Harris.

“If you have plans on Thursday, July 20, you might want to cancel them – you might want to be near your radio, getting ready to celebrate,” Grant Paulsen said Friday.

Trust us – Danny Rouhier, he of the ‘get this done immediately’ mantra, already is.

“That’s what I’m talking about!” Danny crowed. “No more ‘maybe we’ll get around to it.’ Let’s get around to it right now, ASAP. That’s what I want, urgency! This has to happen, and it’s going to happen. It’s been dragged out long enough, let’s go!”

Grant noted that it really hasn’t, and a July 20 date would actually beat the timeline of last year’s Broncos sale – and while something could still go haywire, it seems like the Finance Committee meeting went ‘swimmingly’ even if it took some time,

“It takes time when someone buys a $700,000 house, this is a $6.05 billion transaction,” Grant said. “But they got through it, and now it’s up to the owners on July 20 – and I think for a lot of us, the hope has always been sooner than later, but as long as it was resolved by training camp, everyone was fine.”

“Knock on wood,” Danny replied. “The sooner you have this group in seat, the more tangible an effect you might see sooner. What I mean is this: first press conference, the ‘we’re not Dan Snyder’ press conference where they remind everyone the old King is did, happens, and you start saying that before the season starts, we will do everything possible to re-build bridges and win folks back, and enhance the experience for those who stuck with us.”

For Danny, the first few months of the Harris regime will be a “friend-raising” stage, not a fundraising one.

“This isn’t a make-money phase, we need to raise friends, win hearts and minds,” Danny said. “If you’re losing money in investments, I’m sorry, but you need to wear it for a while.”

Grant was flabbergasted by the term but loved it, agreeing that’s what the Commanders’ new ownership will need to do – but what can they do to help boost your fan experience?

“Have you had season tickets for more than three years? Tell us what jersey you want and we’ll send it to you. Done,” Danny said. “Stuff like that. Do everything you possibly can to let everyone know they are your best friend.”
