Joe Gibbs tells Grant and Danny Commanders have 'special' feel of past Super Bowl champs

Former Washington head coach Joe Gibbs joined Grant and Danny on Wednesday and praised the feel around the Commanders after taking in Sunday’s divisional round win over the Lions from the sidelines in Detroit.

Gibbs, who coached Washington to three Super Bowl titles, believes this group has the “feel” that some of his championship teams did when they made their runs to glory.

“Sometimes a team just gets a real feeling, and they care about each other...as a coach, I know I could feel it. I think this team has done that,” Gibbs said. “Everybody likes [Quinn], the players like him and respect him. You have a GM in Adam, when he jumps in and makes the selections he did, and you have that ownership...that is so hard to do, and they’ve done it. they deserve the credit.

“Who knows? When you get to the championship game, you can make the case for all four of these teams. It can happen.”

Gibbs knows what it takes to have the makeup of a champion, and after watching these Commanders up close against the top-seeded Lions, he believes this group absolutely has a chance to win it all.

“This is really special,” Gibbs said. “We all know in football or if you follow it, how hard this is. What they’ve done in a little over a year to put a team together and be in a championship game, all of us really respect it.

“It’s great. It’s fantastic for all the fans. It’s great for us to all be a part of it. I just think it’s a special time.”
