Josh Harris spoke at length at the press conference announcing the Commanders’ deal with the city to bring a new stadium to RFK Stadium, and also to the assembled media at that presser.
He also spoke with our own JP Finlay later in the day for a segment on NBC4, which produced this snippet of how proud Harris is (and Mama Commander is) to be bringing the team home:
There are still some hurdles that need to be cleared, including a vote of the DC Council to approve it, which Harris is aware of – but his ownership group is ready to do whatever it takes, and pay whatever it takes, to get the job done.
“Obviously, every jurisdiction is different, and certainly DC is being affected by some of the things going on. It's going through a harder time, so we had to factor in the political reality of that in terms of what we could expect,” Harris said. “And then, obviously, DC knows what it's doing. They've done this at Nats Park, they’re in the middle of it at Capital One, and they were aware of all those numbers. They were intelligently focused on making their case to the city and to the council, and so we had to just deal with the reality of it, and then I had to go back to my partners and sell it to them that this was the right thing to do. This is not a high ROI investment for us, this is doing the right thing by the city and the football team to create this amazing experience for people. My partners all went along with it.”
