The Commanders' final (or at least first) 53-man roster is due a week from today, and they have one more preseason game Saturday for those who are on the bubble to show their mettle.
During Thursday's show, BMitch & Finlay were discussing the cuts from 90 to 53, and JP, at least, was of the mindset that "we already probably know 30 of the 37 right now," so the team should let them know as soon as the game is over (if not sooner) so agents can start working the phones.
We know there will be some players cut elsewhere that may merit a look, and injuries will play a role, so there's a lot to be determined in the next week – but JP has a balanced roster with 25 players on each side of the ball and the three specialists, and that only includes two quarterbacks.
"I don't see the point of keeping Jake Fromm; I think you can release him, sign him to your practice squad, and just keep two QBs," Finlay said.
BMitch disagreed, thinking that if Fromm plays as well Saturday as he did Monday, someone might scoop him up, but JP looked at his performance with the Giants last year as more of a data point and would rather keep the flexibility.
As for the rest of the roster, he's keeping three RBs, as tough as it might be to cut Jonathan Williams – with Brian Mitchell thinking it might be worth a fourth for special teams purposes – but also keeping a fullback/tight end.
Take a listen to the discussion between the guys as they try to figure out the fringes of the offensive roster!
