We're having a party next Thursday, starting at 4:30 p.m., at The Bullpen in DC to celebrate the end of the Dan Snyder era.
Well, assuming it does actually end by close of business on Jul 20 as planned, because of course, the recent WaPo report that Snyder is messing around to make the sale difficult and possibly get it postponed – and for all the things said on our air about a man who has been called almost anything pejorative you can think of, John Feinstein had the perfect classy one for the Junkies Friday.
"All I've been thinking is that he's like this fly that won't go away, no matter how many times you slap at it. Snyder is that type of fly, so I will believe the sale is going to happen when it actually happens," Feinstein told the Junkies. "Obviously, you want this vote next Thursday, you don't want it postponed. You want him out and fresh ownership in for training camp, so Josh Harris and his people can get started with whatever they're going to do, and put Dan Snyder in the rear-view."
It is indeed a big deal if the sale gets postponed, as Feinstein admits, but "if you were to take a poll on who wants Snyder to stick around, it might be a unanimous no," so that might be worse for the league and the franchise.
And for those who are upset Snyder will walk away, at some point, a very rich man?
"I spoke at an event last year and someone asked me what I thought of him, and I said he was the worst owner in the history of sports – and I got a standing ovation! Talk about a hanging curveball," Feinstein laughed. "Yeah, he's going to walk away with $6 billion, but what's he going to do with it? He's going to live his life in humiliation, because he took one of the great franchises in sports and completely ran it into the ground, and became an absolute pariah in the town in which he grew up. I don't care if you have $6 billion or $60 billion, because his life is ruined. For a long time he had power, and people sucked up to him and looked the other way, but no matter how much money he walks away with, it's a day for celebrating. I'm not a fan of the team, but I will be happy because I have so many friends who care about this team that will now have some hope, which they haven't had for a long time."
And then, Feinstein put the final nail in the coffin.
"I don't know what kind of owner Josh Harris will be, but he has to be better than Snyder, because it's impossible to be worse."
Take a listen to all of Feinstein's appearance above, which includes chat about his beloved Mets possibly trading Scherzer or Verlander, the Northwestern football controversy, and more!
