Jalen Hurts was seen noticeably limping through the tunnel after the Eagles held off the Rams to advance to Sunday’s NFC title game, leaving his availability for the hyped matchup against the rival Commanders up in the air, to some extent.
Many expect the Eagles quarterback to suit up with a spot in the Super Bowl on the line, but even if that is the case, can Hurts be expected to be his typical self while battling a knee injury?
The Junks discussed that possibility on Wednesday morning, and wondered if Hurts’ nagging knee ailment changes how the Washington approaches the game on Sunday.
“You saw him limping around, and people have speculated that he tore his PCL or knee injury,” EB said. “Do you change your game plan at all?”
“I think you have to see how he looks,” Bishop said.
But Cakes says there should be a preparation as if Hurts is going to have all of his usual weapons at his disposal, including his legs.
“You have to assume he’s healthy,” Cakes said. “And that he’s gonna be just as dangerous as ever.”
What if Hurts isn’t able to go? The Commanders have had up-close experience to the alternatives, as Hurts left their last matchup together when his head slammed to the ground early in a thrilling 36-33 win for Washington, and even if Hurts were to miss Sunday’s game, the Junks wouldn’t expect a walk in the park to the Super Bowl.
“[Tanner] McKee actually played pretty well in his limited time on the field,” EB said. “I think it would be [Kenny] Pickett, and Pickett played fairly well against Washington the first time. They probably win that game if DaVonta Smith didn’t drop that pass.”
