JUNKIES: Should the Commanders sign Nick Chubb?

The Commanders added a versatile wide receiver in Jaylin Lane and a potential sleeper running back in Jacory Croskey-Merritt, but that was all they did in the draft to give Jayden Daniels more weapons for his offense.

That led the Junkies, on Thursday, to wonder if maybe a short-term roll of the dice on former Browns back Nick Chubb would fit in the Commanders’ mold?

“He’s landed on IR each of the last two seasons and had a lot of injuries throughout his NFL campaign, but he's 29 years old, on the comeback trail, and he’s been doing a lot of training in the offseason,” Cakes said. “We just saw videos on Twitter within the last week, hopping over these hurgles that makes it appear that he's pretty healthy. If you're a Commanders fan, do you have interest in adding him to your RB room? He’s a super hard worker and he would fit in perfectly with Dan Quinn and the whole brotherhood and camaraderie mantra that has worked so successfully here. Like, nobody's gonna outwork Nick Chubb. That dude is a grinder, it’s just a matter of can he stay on the field and stay productive?”

To that point…

“He came back last year and just did not look like the same player. He averaged 3.3 yards per carry, wasn't very productive,” Cakes said, to which Bish noted that the Browns ‘were a bad team with no passing offense.’

“He was doing that before last season too, his offseason workouts, squatting a freaking billion pounds, but then he did nothing,” Bish said.

“You hoped he would come back and be a semblance of his old self, the guy who just struck fear in the hearts of people, just a hard runner, you know, like a 1,000+ yard runner, multiple seasons in Cleveland. He wasn't the same guy.”

But that all said, if the price is right, why not?

“I find that to be a low-risk signing, and remember, anyone is eligible for the practice squad these days,” EB said. “Low-risk, very little if any guaranteed money? Why not bring him in? Competition makes everybody better.”

“If you could get Nick Chubb pre-ACL tear, he's one of the best in the league, but he's a completely different player,” Bish said. “Would I give him a shot? I wouldn’t give him a lot of money, and give him a shot to come into camp and see what he has. It’s a lottery ticket, but don't bank on it because he's not the same player he was two years ago.”
