JUNKIES: Valdez has his own conspiracy theory about the Commanders' Draft QB plans?

During his pre-draft press conference Thursday, Commanders GM Adam Peters said this about the potential of making trades during the Draft:

“With the optionality we have in all those picks, anything's in consideration. We're going to do whatever is best for this organization, so if that's moving up or moving back, we'll do that, and lucky for us, we have the ability to do so with all the ammo we have, he did mention moving up.”

Peters also said he ‘doesn’t see’ including the No. 2 pick going up or back, but Jordan Reid did tell Grant & Danny Thursday that it’s ‘a poorly-kept secret’ the Commanders will trade back into the first round to select a tackle – and given their five Day 2 picks are 36, 40, 67, 78, and 100, they have five assets that, in some combo, could turn into something before 32.

“Every GM should be open to at least listening to offers up right up until you make your pick,” Cakes said. “You should have an open mind and be fielding calls.”

“I believe him, there’s very little incentive, but you gotta be prepared in advance so that you don't make a panic, spur of the moment decision,” EB shot back.

The No. 2 statement led Eric to believe “that they love at least one of those guys,” although they haven’t made a decision; JP thinks “they're basically dotting the I's and crossing the T’s” and have, but in came Valdez with the wild card:

“I think he's driving the price up; I think there's a reasonable chance they'll trade out and he's playing the game of who's driving the price up,” was Valdez’s response. “I think the Vikings are hell bent on getting Jayden Daniels, they just had a private workout with him, and I feel like if Daniels is not the Commanders’ guy, there's a possible chance that they trade out of it. And all they're doing now is, is trying to get more picks.”

“So, say the Vikings call and say we'll give you our two first-rounders this year and at least one more first rounder in the next draft, I'm gonna at least listen to the offer,” Cakes said.

Yes, and then this:

“I'm just reading into what Peters is saying about how he said we still need to do medical and that really stuck out to me,” Valdez shot back. “Out of the four out of the four guys that they've hosted who has the most medical concerns? Michael Penix. So if they're driving up a price and the Vikings love Daniels, and that's the only thing that they're really worried about with Penix, and Penix is their guy?”

“So they love Penix, they do the deal with the Vikings, the Vikings come up and take Daniels at two and the commanders are sitting at 11,” Cakes said. “He could easily move up a few spots from 11 if there's a quarterback he likes there, or he could pick Penix at 11 – but why not just take Penix later in the round?”

“I'm just trying to read between the lines and connect the dots,” Valdez said.

JP then played a clip of Peters talking about how hard it is to evaluate quarterbacks (and the guys asked the obvious Trey Lance question) – and you can listen to it all starting about 32 minutes into the clip above!
