Ken Harvey proud to see the Commanders' resurgence

Ken Harvey is, in JP Finlay’s words, ‘one of the absolute best sack guys the burgundy and gold's ever had,’ and when he joined JP and Brian Mitchell on Radio Row in New Orleans Thursday, he told them he was glad to see the team’s resurgence this year, with its best season since 1991.

“People remember how great it was, and you were part of it – not that I was ever in the Super Bowls or anything like that, but you were a part of a great franchise, so to see it come back to life again is great,” Harvey said. “When you walked around, everybody got a piece of that respect that the that the current team's got, right? And I think more than anything, all former players want just to be respected and have it known that they worked hard to be in that position and to do well at their job, so it’s really cool to see that and to see the fans walking around with the jerseys. I've never seen so much pride.”

As BMitch said, it’s hard to be proud of your product when it’s a losing one, which is why you’re seeing more Commanders gear now than you have any iteration of gear in the last quarter-century.

“It’s not embarrassment, pride is the word; you can wear something, and it's no longer like no one is looking at you or cares about you,” Harvey said. “They're looking at you and saying, ‘yeah,’ and it's kind of like that solid nod, like, I got you.”

So with the future so bright…what does Harvey think of the possibility of Myles Garrett coming to DC?

“One of the things I think is that pass rushers in general, from what I’m seeing, a lot of times guys have one move, one technique, but they lack a second move or an understanding of the quarterback, and a lot of guys have become one-dimensional,” Harvey said. “You gotta look at a quarterback, and then it becomes a team thing. You have to understand the quarterback, understand the team and person you’re going against, and if you can do that and understand your body, it makes you an elite pass rusher. It’s all about technique, and Myles Garrett has that second and third move, and that’s beast mode. As great as the quarterbacks have become, you also need great pass rushers to get to those quarterbacks, and those aren’t a dime a dozen; there are very few who are elite enough to do that.”
