Luke McCaffrey on Sunday's Commanders win: 'Everybody had their turn' to make a big play

Luke McCaffrey had three catches for 19 yards Sunday, and has 10 catches for 98 yards total this season – but if you don’t think he’s an integral part of the Commanders offense that is humming right now, think again, because two of his catches were huge on Sunday, and his blocking made plays happen for several others.

“(Sunday) was a credit to how well our defense played and how well players made plays when they needed to, right? We saw a lot of man that game, and whenever you see man, it's gonna be a little chaotic, but you got to hit the opportunities when they come, and I think we hit a lot of big plays and that's kind of why our offense is able to thrive, which is cool,” McCaffrey told JP Finlay after Sunday’s win in an interview aired on Monday’s BMitch & Finlay Show. “But I think we're going to go back and see a lot of plays that we think we can execute at a higher level than what we did today.”

That last line seems to be a Dan Quinn standard, as even in a blowout win there are learning opportunities to get better – which sounds especially strange here given how many explosive plays the offense had.

“Kliff (Kingsbury) and Jayden (Daniels) do such a good job of just ID’ing the defense and seeing matchups, and especially when you get a game of man, that's kind of how the game is going to flow,” McCaffrey said. “You're usually going to have lower completion percentage, but you're going to have more yards, right? It seems like that's probably what happened today, but that’s what’s going to happen in man. When the opportunity comes, you got to make a big play, and everybody kind of had their turn and you had everyone winning across the board.”

Credit as always to the rookie QB, who seems like he’s doing it all.

“It’s as high as you could play, right?” McCaffrey said about Daniels’ level of play. “I think he's just so poised and seeing the field so well, and it was cool to see him get back to the ground a little bit this game too, and fly around there. It’s only Week 5 and we’re still growing, and as long as we can stay focused on every rep, every moment and just continue to get better, we’ve got an opportunity to get better and to grow every single week.”
