We got a little love for his Lights Out Extreme Fighting and some weather talk when Shawne Merriman joined The Junks Wednesday morning, but with his guys BMitch & Finlay, it was time for some football talk.
And the topic du jour? The Commanders are 8-5 at the bye, and Jayden Daniels is a certified stud who might get better after the week off.
“We talked about it before the season started that I felt the most NFL-ready QB was Daniels, and there’s a couple passes he’s thrown where, his placement of the ball, is stuff you don’t learn until later in your career,” Merriman said. “When you’re a rookie, you don’t have any time off; you go straight from college to working out for the Combine and the Draft to rookie minicamp and OTAs, then into camp, so that’s why a lot of these guys hit the wall. I can only imagine that this first break will help him level up again, and just get his feet under him and healthy again, and come out firing.”
Merriman of course talked a bit about the defense, specifically Dante Fowler’s resurgence in that edge linebacker role, which has come with maybe the wisdom of age?
“You get a lot smarter, man, when that explosion starts to slip away a little bit and you're not as fast coming out of your stance and changing directions,” Merriman laughed. “When you start to really get into film, and down and distance and ball placement and set, you can kind of pin your ears back and go, and you learn how to win differently.”
