Packers sign LB Jamin Davis to practice squad

It didn’t take long for Jamin Davis to find a home, as the Packers announced Tuesday they have signed Davis to their practice squad, and he will wear No. 44.

To make room, however, the Pack had to release someone with a very familiar name here in DC: LB Chris Russell, no relation to our own Rooster whose last name might not actually be Russell…

Of note, Davis was listed as a linebacker in Green Bay’s transaction, likely signaling his return to a second-level role after being tried as an edge rusher by Dan Quinn this season.

Davis, the Commanders’ first-round pick (19th overall) in 2021, gives the Pack a veteran with 36 NFL starts and 281 tackles on their practice squad, and gives them some depth for a linebacking corps that has two rookies as the nominal backups to their three starters in the base 4-3.

Russell, who was undrafted out of Texas A&M (where he played alongside Packers LB Edgerrin Cooper) signed a deal late in camp, and went to the practice squad after being released.
