According to our own Grant Paulsen, the Commanders are ‘working toward signing QB Trace McSorley’ ahead of Saturday’s preseason game in Miami.
Washington has four quarterbacks on the roster, but Sam Hartman, who led the Commanders for most of the second half in last Saturday’s loss to the Jets, injured his right shoulder on the team’s penultimate drive and did not return to the game.
On Monday, head coach Dan Quinn said it’s not likely a long-term issue, but Hartman would not practice Monday and Tuesday, which would likely preclude him from playing Saturday – which now leads the Commanders towards adding another signal-caller.
McSorley, 28, was a sixth-round pick of the Ravens in 2019 and has played for both Baltimore and Arizona, the latter during Kliff Kingsbury’s tenure in 2021-22. He has played nine games over four seasons, with his lone NFL start coming in 2022 in Arizona.
In addition to familiarity with Kingsbury, McSorley is from Ashburn, and was a three-star recruit out of Briar Woods HS after leading them to three straight state championships from 2010-12.
