Former Commanders tight end Logan Paulsen recently raved about Sam Howell, declaring that he looks “a billion” times better than what the team saw from their quarterback play in training camp last season.
Last year, Carson Wentz was handling the bulk of the snaps in camp, so, given his performance, the bar isn’t set particularly high. Still, Paulsen’s comments have The Junkies excited for what’s to come for Howell.
“To me, that’s encouraging,” Cakes said. “I understand that’s hyperbole and not an actual number, but if Logan Paulsen, a guy who studies film as good or better than anybody, if he’s seeing that, I that’s the vibe he’s getting, I tend to buy into it and believe it.
“There’s no way Sam Howell is worse than Carson Wentz. Wentz was throwing balls in the dirt and at his receivers’ feet in the flat.”
The Junks also agree that Paulsen’s assessment needs to be right if the Commanders are going to navigate a tough NFC East and reach the postseason.
“I feel like Sam has to be markedly better than [Taylor] Heinicke…to get this team into the playoffs or playoff contention, he has to be a mid-90s rated quarterback.”
