Terry McLaurin ends holdout, reports to Commanders training camp

HE’S HERE!

Terry McLaurin arrived at Commanders camp on Sunday, the first day fans were allowed to come out to Ashburn to view practice, and will officially start on the PUP list due to an ankle issue.

“Terry has reported, and we’re very happy about that, but he’ll start training camp on PUP for his ankle,” Quinn said to open his press conference Sunday. “On the business side, AP is working hard with Terry and his reps, and while on PUP, he’ll be working with the trainers to get back as soon as he can.”

Quinn told the media that the ankle was something that was bothering McLaurin at the end of last season, so it is something that seems to be lingering as the team ramps up towards its preseason, but McLaurin seems to be in good spirits all things considered.

“He seemed very much like himself; he’s a serious competitor but also a pro’s pro who handles things the right way,” Quinn said. “He’s built a lot with the teammates here, and I think that’s what other guys were referencing in talking about him.”

McLaurin did not practice, obviously, but did take pictures and sign autographs for fans for close to a half-hour at the conclusion of the team’s on-field work, and spoke to the assembled media as he walked back towards the facility.

“It feels good to be around my teammates and the fans,” McLaurin said. “They’ve shown me a lot of love and support, and I just try to give that back on and off the field.”

While he is in Ashburn and no longer a holdout, there is no news on any progress toward a contract extension, nor any word if the PUP designation will change the way the Commanders levy the fines McLaurin has accrued for missing mandatory minicamp ($105,000) or the first four days of camp ($200,000).
