Terry McLaurin: 'It was a joy' to play football this year

Terry McLaurin has been a part of six locker cleanout days under three head coaches in Washington, and really, they’re all the same if they’re not coming the day after a Super Bowl parade…although for Terry, this one is, at least, a little more meaningful.

“It feels the same in that you lost and fell short of your goal, but it feels different because of what we’ve accomplished this year as a group of individuals coming from across the league, coaches included,” McLaurin told our JP Finlay. “There were no expectations going into this season, and it’s extremely humbling to be a part of something where you literally built something from the ground up. It just makes football great, and it was a joy playing this season.”

And within that, the hardest part for McLaurin is knowing that because this group was assembled to build a culture and not necessarily a champion, several key players are likely to be elsewhere next year.

“It’s tough to say goodbye to guys you won’t see again, but you wish them well and hope to stay in contact,” McLaurin said. “I think that’s the hardest part; when you have such a unique group like we did this year, that did some a lot of cool things, that you won’t have that same group is unfortunate.
There will be a time we can all reflect on that, but this is a really close group so I know guys will stay in contact.”

But, in that same vein, what was special about this group will remain.

“The exciting part is I feel like the foundation has taken a step in the right direction for the future.”
