The Junkies react to CBS Sports rankings the Commanders' QB1/WR1/RB1 trio 25th

They’re no “triplets,” or any other vaunted QB/WR/RB trio in NFL history, but don’t sleep on the Washington Commanders’ crew of Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Austin Ekeler, maybe.

On Tuesday, the Junks looked into CBS’ rankings of the QB1/WR1/RB1 combos in the NFL, which has the Commanders’ fellas…25th, in the tier of “too many question marks” teams?

Could be worse, at least they’re ahead of seven teams and wedged in between New Orleans and Pittsburgh, and ahead of the Steelers, Titans, Raiders, Giants, Panthers, Patriots (and Drake Maye), and Broncos – but Cakes went through the lists for all of those teams below Washington, and yeah, it’s not exactly Aikman, Irvin, and Smith (or even guys named Troy, Michael, and Emmitt), but it’s still improvement in DC.

“They were ranked 29th last year do it’s an improvement, but they have Ekeler as the lead back,” Cakes noted before reading the blurb on the team. “They say it’s hard to say they should be any higher than this given the uncertainty about how this trio will work on the field, and I think that’s a fair assessment of this group.”

“It’s kind of interesting the tier ahead of them is labeled ‘exciting young quarterbacks’ with the Vikings and Bears there, but they’re not in the question marks category and the Commanders aren’t,” Bish said. “It’s like they’re already sold on McCarthy and Caleb Williams. Maybe they have a better overall crop of receivers, but I’m surprised they have them a tier above.”

“Every one of the rookie quarterbacks is unproven, but I think it’s fair,” JP said. “With all these rankings – I saw something that was maybe troubling if you're a Commanders fan going into the season: Warren Sharp, who I think does really good analysis, has their offensive line ranked 27th; if you've got a 27th ranked offensive line and we know there are question marks on the offensive line that maybe doesn't bode well for your unproven quarterback.”

As for receivers, yeah, Daniels is a rookie, but even if McLaurin is a great wideout, Jahan Dotson and some rookies and back-end players is not as optimal as, say, adding a Tee Higgins or Brandon Aiyuk to that group, so to JP, again, being 25th is ‘totally fair.”

“I would agree,” Bish said. “I just think some of those other teams shouldn't be as high, but it’s just a dumb ranking. And when they release the Top 15 today, it's gonna be teams with prolific offenses, and it starts with the quarterback.”
