Thor Nystrom eyes TreVeyon Henderson as possible Commanders second-round target
Running back looks to be a position the Commanders will try to supplement in the draft, and there’s no shortage of backs that could be impact players on the top three rounds – exactly where the team found Brian Robinson Jr. three years ago.
But in talking to BMitch and Finlay Thursday about draft strategies, there was one in particular that piqued Thor Nystrom’s interest:
That said, Nystrom agreed with JP that edge rusher is still the biggest need right now, but drafting No. 29 and No. 61 as their only Day 1 and Day 2 picks means they either need a home run or hope a later pick blossoms – but could they strike that gold at 29 and still fill another need (like an RB) at 61?
“I think that (29 is) a good spot to be picking needing the edge defender, assuming that that's the direction that Washington ends up going. You're gonna get a quality player there,” Nystrom said. “Now, is it gonna be the elite one trick pony kind of a guy like James Pierce, where you get the elite pass rushing but maybe you're going to be yanking him off the field in some obvious running situations, or is it the more well-rounded guy that maybe doesn't have quite the ceiling as a pass rusher? Either way, there's probably going to be multiple edge defenders available to you to choose between at that slot that are well worth the slot value, so you're not gonna have to reach. The depth of that class, to me, goes at least through round two, but in the late first round, you're gonna get a guy that you like that can step in there immediately.”
