Grant & Danny, good friends of Commanders punter Tress Way, were foremost among many joking about how little Tress Way was punting towards the end of last year, as the Commanders were going for fourth downs at a high rate and/or scoring a lot.
Little did many know, however, that Way had a lot going on behind the scenes: he and wife Bri adopted a baby boy, Brooks, who was battling heart issues – and the Commanders brass gave Tress all the leeway he needed to make sure his new son got the best care, especially from mom and dad.
And even though Tress told Grant Wednesday he loved being in D.C. no matter the regime, this was indeed a stark difference from what he had seen in the first decade of his career.
“This is just a special place…the owners were texting me and asking about the baby boy. It is unbelievable,” Tress said, as Grant relayed his own personal experiences with the new ownership versus Dan Snyder. “When the news broke that I had agreed to the terms of a new deal, (Mitch Rales) texted me immediately, but on the signing, we walk in, and the kids have become a hit.
Our three oldest are old enough to be hilarious and cute and all over the place, but they had contracts for them to sign, with like their names on them. So they signed them, and Mitch texts me them signing their contract, not me signing my contract. He texts me my kids signing their contract, and he’s like, ‘this is what it's all about.’”
