Washington Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. says if the Philadelphia Eagles decide to run Jalen Hurts, they will hit him like a running back.
"If he’s going to run the ball, and if the coordinator makes a decision for him to run the ball, we’re going to treat him like a running back and hit him that way,” Whitt Jr. said on Thursday. "That’s their decision if they want to get him hit the way that he gets hit. If they don’t, they’ll keep him in the pocket, but that’s what we’re going to do."
In the first meeting of the season between the Eagles and Commanders, Hurts rushed 10 times for 39 yards and a score in a win. However, in Week 16, Hurts was knocked out of the game early with a concussion after rushing three times for 41 yards. The Commanders went on to win the game 36-33 on a last second touchdown pass.
Hurts, who rushed 150 times this season, is also dealing with a knee injury he suffered in last Sunday's Divisional win over the LA Rams.
Hurts is expected to play in Sunday's NFC Title game, but it's unknown how much he will be affected by his knee injury.
