Less than a week ago, Ron Rivera belabored announcing the starting quarterback of the Washington Football Team, stating that he'd rather "do it on our schedule."
As it turns out, all it took was a nondescript question about Cam Newton — who was surprisingly cut by the Patriots on Tuesday — for Rivera to announce Washington's starter.
"It did pop up on our radar, but just so you know, Ryan Fitzpatrick is our starting quarterback," Rivera told reporters in response to a question about if Newton popped up in his radar after the 32-year-old's release.
At long last, Rivera announced what everyone already knew, that Ryan Fitzpatrick had won the starting job in Washington over Taylor Heinicke.
Minutes later, Washington's official social media accounts made it Twitter official.
And just like that, Fitzpatrick is Washington's starting quarterback for 2021.
